ELECTRICAL FIXED WIRING TESTING (EBT) Electrical Buildings Test standards, and the reasons why your premises require an electrical periodic inspection report PIR.

You are required by law to ensure your buildings electrical systems are installed to safe and correct standards to comply with BS7671 IEE 16th Ed Wiring Regulations. This will be requested by your insurers, as it is your responsibility to provide valid information that your building meets a safe electrical standard.

Enquire as to the type of format / paper work and file you will be given on completion, be wary of soley TICK lists as these do not give you understandable answers to the problems that may exist. Poor quality check lists still leave you scratching your head, not knowing what action needs to be taken in order to comply with HSE or IEE or part P regulations for the safety of your workplace or dwelling. This liability rests with your companies in house Health & Safety Officer/Representative. The type of file you require will need to be readable by a layman so technical issues raised may be explained to a level you can interpret, in order for the appropriate action to be taken.

Prioritised information in your file will allow you to deal with the more urgent issues. Categorys / codes 1-4 IEE regs guidelines. Less urgent issues can be placed on ONGOING Maintenance Schedules, allowing for budgeting.

Bare in mind the test file is not there to create more expense and complications for your company, but is information to be used by yourselves in order to reduce your long term costs and risk liabilities. See it as a health check.
