Electrical Test & Inspection Known as EBT tests (Electrical Buildings Test) and for periodic inspection reports (PIR) tests BS7671 16th ed wiring regs have become mandatory. Most people do not understand what its all about, well in short its a survey of the electrical systems within the building similar to a structural survey. There are several reasons you may be asked to have such a test carried out.
1/ You wish to buy a property your lenders will ask that you have it inspected and tested to verify that the fixed wiring is in a safe condition, and that the investment you are about to make is worth it, pretty much common sense.
2/ For commercial premises or places of work the fixed wiring test is a mandatory requirement, requested by Insurance companies Councils / Environmental officers, etc., and particularly for Entertainment's Licence's to ensure that all electrical safety issues are minimised or eliminated for the safety of the personnel or public using such buildings. (Minimise your risk assessment).
3/ Other tests may be legally enforced by the HSE or privately investigated by solicitors following an accident or claim made against a company and its safety directors.
PAT tests or ISAT /In service appliance tests. This is an annual test on your portable appliances, that is any electrical appliance fitted with a mains voltage 13amp plug top. All commercial Offices - Hotels - Schools -Business premises of all types are required to have their equipment tested every 12 months. Carried out on site by one of our test engineers.
